Stubborn, fearless, everywhere
The Dust Hare is a small steppe mammal known across all of Tauria for its stubborn temperament and remarkable resilience. Compact and warm-furred in the pale tawny shade of dry Goldstep Grass, with long upright ears that serve as both heat regulators and distant-motion detectors, the Dust Hare has survived every apex predator Tauria has produced by being small, fast, and possessed of an almost philosophical commitment to remaining exactly where it is until the very last moment.
When genuinely threatened, a Dust Hare can accelerate to speeds that leave larger predators reaching for nothing but air. But until that moment arrives, it will sit at its burrow entrance with a composure that borders on defiance, watching the approach of whatever approaches with large dark eyes and no visible concern.
"The most common animal on Tauria. I have counted eleven from my tent entrance this morning without moving my head. Giliad's Third Law of Field Observation: the abundance of a species is inversely proportional to the interest it receives from naturalists. The Dust Hare will outlive us all. — G."
