The Sharp Eye
Nefilia had long been listening in the darkness before she finally moved, gathering information as smoke gathers shadows. She arrives without making noise. Armed with nothing but a utility blade, she still strikes Rae as the most dangerous of them all. She wears scout's leathers, perpetually dusted with ash. Her eyes miss nothing — volcanic patterns, lava flows, the way certain areas are avoided by the molten rivers, as though the planet itself knows what to leave alone.
Scout, tracker, and the sharpest eyes in the Aries. Her pride once led her into the dark alone. She speaks in observations, not opinions. "Those flows avoid certain areas. Either the ground is harder there, or something made them flow around." She sees what others miss and says only what matters.
Her pride is her flaw and her weapon. She took the southern slope alone, found the forest's humid depths, the vines crawling up deadwood, the fungus blooming on stone. When something leapt straight at her, she refused to show fear. "It can keep the forest," she said — the sharpest retreat she'd allow herself.
She understands the land the way Athamas understands architecture — as a living system with rules that can be learned. "Some plants remember more than people."
Velkareth & Lysirën (Swift Sting and Whisper of Light) — Twin flame-daggers. One for speed, one for silence. They suit a scout who fights from the edges, not the centre.
The Sharpest Eyes — Nefilia found metal ore in the northern mountains, fields that could take crops to the east, good timber south, peaceful slopes west. She mapped the Ashen Rim, tracked the Inferno Stalker into a box canyon, and realised too late that it had allowed her to follow.
Survivor's Instinct — When the Smokebloom spores hit Maela, Nefilia cut the flower at its base without hesitation. She reads danger the way Ino reads flora — by touch, by instinct, by the prickling at the back of her neck.
The Inferno Stalker — The creature that haunts her. It stalked her with intelligence, not instinct. It let her track it into a narrow gorge, then watched her from above for hours. Then it left. She has sworn to see one face to face on her own terms. It is unfinished business.
Ino — They share the work of understanding Arietis. Ino catalogues what Nefilia discovers. But when Ino's sketches inadvertently struck a nerve — showing Nefilia something she'd rather not have seen — the scout's entire bearing changed, sharp and electric.
Helle — They walked the Ashen Rim together. Two women with different strengths finding trust on hostile ground. Nefilia reads the land; Helle reads the threat.
Nefilia scouted the southern slope on the first day and found a world stranger than anyone expected — humid depths where vines crawled up deadwood and fungus fed off volcanic heat. She encountered coarse, purple-tipped grass sharp as knives. She refused to enter the eastern woods. "Too dark. Too quiet."
She led the expedition into the Ashen Rim with Helle, where they encountered the Moltreeds, the Smokebloom, and creatures that watched with intelligence. When the Inferno Stalker made its presence known, Nefilia tracked it — and discovered it had been tracking her all along.
In the final battle, her twin daggers found their mark in the shadows. But the Stalker remains unseen, unfaced, unfinished. Nefilia intends to change that.
