Appearance

Helle emerged from sleep with a warrior's precision, already reaching for a sword that wasn't there. That instinct defines her — the readiness, the tension between stillness and violence. She wears her armour like a second skin, char marks earned and never repaired. Her eyes read terrain the way a tactician reads a map. She moves through the world as someone accustomed to being unseen, which makes her dangerous — she learned to watch before anyone learned to watch her.

Personality

A warrior who walked unseen among her own people, mistaking invisibility for worthlessness. She is the steadiest blade in any formation and the one Rae trusted with Hamal itself. She does not shout. She does not posture. When others argue, Helle acts. When the tribe needed someone to hold the city while Rae marched to war, he chose her without hesitation.

She carries a grief she rarely shows. On Earth, she left behind an old shepherd dog — grey around the muzzle, too old for the journey. She told herself the dog would be happier staying. Easier to tell herself that than admit she abandoned her. When the Blazehounds first howled across the volcanic plains, Helle's face was wet before she knew she was crying.

Abilities

Varnathir (Flame-Woken Blade) — The first blade forged in the Heart of Hamal. Its blessed edge cuts through Umbrin as if they were smoke. Helle wields it with the economy of someone who has trained so long the sword has become thought.

Tactical Instinct — "That's a hard land," she said, mapping ridgelines with a tactician's eye. "Which means it's ours." Helle reads a battlefield the way others read faces. She sees the killing ground, the choke point, the retreat before the first arrow flies.

Endurance — She carried the Blazehound pup bare-handed from the Ashen Rim to Hamal. The pup's ember heat blistered her palms. Red welts crossed both hands where she'd held it against her chest for the long walk home. She hadn't said a word about it.

Relationships

The Blazehound Pup — Helle found the orphaned pup in the Ashen Rim, weak and barely glowing. She carried it home despite the burns. Months later, the mother returned and reclaimed it. In Mesarthim, the mother brought the pup back — circling Helle, scenting her, then leaving it to choose. It chose Helle. The pup is never more than a step away now. Its quiet presence anchors her when rage or grief threatens to pull her under.

Rae — He trusted her with Hamal itself. When the war column marched, Helle stayed behind to hold the city. Not because she was less, but because she was the only one he trusted to keep his people alive if he didn't return.

Ino — The two share the quiet bond of women who understand loss without needing to name it. When Helle wept for her old dog, Ino sat beside her. "Maybe loving something here helps honour what we loved there."

Story

Helle was the first to name the land — she named the mountain before they even landed. She was the first to form ranks when the unknown howled beyond the ridge. She walked the Ashen Rim and came back carrying fire in her arms.

She led the expedition that first encountered the Cindershorns, the Inferno Stalker's territory, and the creatures that would reshape the tribe's understanding of Arietis. When Sheratan burned, she fought in the streets. When the war came, she bore Varnathir into the Clearing and faced the Umbrin leader — who caught her blessed blade in its bare hand.

After the battle, Rae trusted her with Hamal's defence while he rebuilt. The Blazehound pup sat at her feet. She had been seen. Not just by her human companions, but by creatures who recognised something in her worth claiming as pack. As family. As home.
