Leonis is a vast and arid desert planet baking under the gaze of a relentless blazing sun. Golden dunes stretch endlessly in every direction, broken only by towering mesas and ancient rock formations that have stood sentinel for millennia. Despite its harsh exterior, Leonis harbours life, beauty, and a civilization of extraordinary pride and resilience — the Leo tribe, who have turned the desert's severity into a source of unbreakable strength.
The Sunforge Dunes dominate Leonis — an ocean of liquid gold that shimmers and ripples under the relentless sun. The Blazing Mesa rises from the desert floor like a fortress of stone, its flat summit used for sacred ceremonies and astronomical observations. The Oasis of Unity is the most precious landmark on Leonis — a shimmering pool fed by deep underground springs, surrounded by rare vegetation and serving as both the physical and spiritual heart of the Leo civilization.
Regulus is a city of golden sandstone built around the Oasis of Unity, its buildings radiating outward like rays of the sun. At the city's centre stands the Temple of the Sun, constructed from the hull of The Radiance — the ship that carried the Leo tribe to this world. Within the temple lies the Chamber of Radiance, a sacred space where sunlight is channelled through crystal lenses to create patterns of divine significance, used for rituals, prophecy, and the anointing of leaders.
Life on Leonis has evolved remarkable adaptations to the extreme heat. Solarbloom Cacti store vast reserves of water and bloom with brilliant golden flowers that track the sun across the sky. Blazewood Trees grow near oases, their fire-resistant bark and deep roots allowing them to endure sandstorms and drought. Sunshadow Lizards bask on the hot rocks with scales that change colour to regulate heat, Sandrunners race across the dunes at incredible speeds, and Firewing Hawks hunt from the thermals, their plumage blazing like living flames.
The Leo tribe is defined by pride, resilience, community, and unity. Their culture celebrates strength not as domination but as the power to protect and uplift. The Solstice Celebration marks the longest day of the year with feasts, performances, and displays of martial prowess. Sunlit Offerings are daily rituals of gratitude to the sun. Rites of Passage test young members of the tribe through trials of endurance in the deep desert, forging them into warriors, leaders, and protectors of their people.
Central to Leo mythology is the Eternal Flame — a divine, ever-present force that burns within every member of the tribe and within the sun itself. The Radiance, the ship that brought the Leo tribe to Leonis, is believed to have undergone a divine transformation upon landing, its hull merging with the desert stone to become the Temple of the Sun. The Leo believe that the sun is not merely a star but a conscious entity that watches over them, rewarding courage and scorning cowardice.
