Six-legged scavengers of the reed beds
Squat, six-legged scavengers found along rivers, marshes and reed beds. Their overlapping plates are mottled brown and pale gold, making resting animals difficult to distinguish from dead reeds and mud.
The first pair of legs ends in broad digging claws used to tear beneath roots for insects, small fish and carrion. Normally wary, they become fiercely defensive around their nesting chambers.
