TranslationGuardian Flame — from Aulë (shield) and orûn (soul, firelight)

A radiant shield, forged of layered ore and obsidian, with the sigil of protection etched deep at its centre. When light strikes it, it shimmers like a shield of sunfire. Rae presented it to Ino with words that carried more weight than any blade:

“For those who guard the soul, not just the body.”

Aulorûn is unlike the other weapons of the Chosen. It was not made to destroy. It was made to endure. Its surface catches strikes with bursts of emberlight, and when its bearer stands firm, the shield becomes a wall against which even the Umbrin recoil. It is the only weapon among the five that protects rather than cuts — and in Ino’s hands, that protection extends far beyond the battlefield.

During the forest ambush, Ino’s instincts proved sharper than steel. She dropped into a defensive stance with Aulorûn already sliding onto her arm, catching claw strikes with bursts of light while driving her spear into shadow-forms with the other hand. “Cover him!” she shouted when Korian fell. “We retreat together, or not at all!”

In the Battle of the Clearing, when Umbrin had her cornered against the ancient stone, Aulorûn’s light flickered but held. The Guardian Flame does not go out. Not while its bearer still stands. Not while there are others behind her who need protecting.

Ino is a healer who carries a shield. There is no contradiction in that. She understood, long before the others, that to guard the soul is the harder duty.

“For those who guard the soul, not just the body.”
