Lÿra Elöwen writes about work. Not the idea of it — the actual doing: hands in soil, a bent stalk staked upright, a cup left broken in a drawer because mending it would finish something. Her songs are plain-spoken and closely observed, built on harp, cello and a voice recorded near enough to hear the breath.
Born of Earth is her debut: twelve songs about being the person everyone relies on, and what that costs. It moves from what she gives, through what it takes out of her, to what she decides to keep.
